Low Carb Lifestyle information!!Hola! I'm loving this whole low carb lifestyle! So far in 2 1/2 weeks my tummy is getting back flatter! & I have tons of pure natural energy. I wake up in the morning feeling refreshed & energized!
Prior to this change my energy was drained & I just felt plain tired. I didn't eat too bad before but my ratios of Protein, Carbs, and fiber were all wrong. I was also not eating enough because I was used to eating a low fat/low calorie diet. Whilst I lost 80 LBS doing this 5 years ago starting at 200 LBS, I found it was not enough to keep the weight off.
Mind you, I have not gained huge amounts of weight but I'm not as tiny & toned as I was back in 2007. Even in that, I went to the extreme & caused myself to have "Muscle Catabolism". Not to mention some hormonal medicines I have been on & also recently Zoloft.
I thank God that I'm discovering how my body works & responds to sugar & carbs. Even though I thought I was watching carbs correctly, I was not. I thought as long as my calorie intake was at a decent amount & low fat, I could keep the weight off! Not all Carbs are created equal!
Some enter the bloodstream & turn into glucose rapidly! Causing an insulin spike & if you don't burn this off, your body stores it as fat. Bad/Any Carbs(High glycemic) in large abundance(Though Things like Broccoli are cool to OD on, they are low glycemic), turn into glucose quicker in the blood stream, if you don't burn it off quickly; it gets stored as fat.
Yes, I teach Zumba 6 times per week but it's not enough to burn off all those high glycemic carbs! When I teach my class! Instead of burning fat, I'm burning off the high amounts of carbs I have in taken through out the day. No, I don't eat Candy & chips but even eating too many pieces of fruit can cause insulin spikes in the blood stream(so you have to watch fruit also).
Pair all carbs with a bit of protein because protein slows down the breakdown/absorption of glucose into the blood stream. Also eat plenty of Fibrous Veggies & Fruits (be careful of glycemic index values). This is why! Click here: http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/nutrition/a/fiberbenefits.htm *All About Fiber*
Most fiber is, like other carbohydrates, made up of many glucose molecules. However, fiber does not break down into glucose before it gets to the colon, and often not even there. Even so, fiber does have effects on our digestion all along the way. The stomach: In the stomach, fiber is bulky, so it tends to make us feel full. However, insoluble fiber moves out of the stomach fast unless there is fat, protein, or soluble fiber to slow it down. Soluble fiber, especially the viscous types that hold onto water, will slow down stomach emptying, especially when eaten with lots of fluid and some fat. This is at least partly why soluble fiber tends to decrease the glycemic effect of a meal - the contents of the stomach more gradually enter the small intestine, and from there, the blood.
*Okies Back To My Story* (LOL) Had to post that important information :)
Since I teach Zumba all de time! & it's great for cardio (For the average non teaching Joe) & yes you burn calories but I can do it in my sleep. Your body need's muscle confusion to keep seeing progress from your workout's. Yes, I still get benefits(or else I might be 200lbs again) but I'm not burning as much as I did when I first started loosing weight in 06. So add that with a combo of high carbs from (manufactures) who claim they are healthy, just burning off High glycemic carbs during workouts & storing fat in the day was not helping.
I love teaching & inspiring others but that also puts a damper on my personal progress with changing up workout's & doing more weight training. I'm finding that special balance between the 3 again where I will not tire myself out, cause stress(that causes weight gain too) but also see results. So far so good! I'm eating good again, loads of natural energy & even incorporating mini personal workout's for my own personal wellness.
This is my first blog so please excuse any error's. Please follow me! Keep reading! Be inspired & a Blessing to others! Let's do this!
Blessings All :)
